Next Stop Lira, Uganda

My Peace Corps Journey (so far).

I applied to the PC in April, 2013 and then more or less let my application languish while I went out and traveled the world. I updated some of it from Viet Nam, some from India and then started exploring a new partnership of the PC with Seed Global. The Seed Global program seemed so much more like what I was looking for. It has been my life long dream to join the PC. My mother and I watched JFK's speech 50 years ago and I told her that I would join, someday. Little did I know what route I would take to accomplish that via Viet Nam, India, Cambodia, and the Middle East. I have always dreamed, somewhere back in my mind that I would one day live in rural Africa. I knew it and in 12 more days I will depart for Lira, Uganda.

Visiting with Mary who just returned from Lira!

I am going with Global Health Servics's  which is partnered with Seed and the PC. I will teach nursing at the University in Lira and am so excited. I have seen so many pictures now of the students and those that I will interact with and am so excited about this opportunity to serve. If I am at all nervous it is about the small things.......internet connection (maybe not such a small thing). Family and I are getting together for the 4th of July, Nam is meeting me in DC to take me to the hotel and I am almost ready....if anyone is ever really truly ready for such a journey.

Things I still need to do: Pack, shop, sell my car, cancel my phone, the list is never ending.
